Snow Play: Bringing the Snow Inside

Snow Play, Indoors!

Well hello! So many posts I want to share, including some fun outdoor snow pics from this week’s Seattle “snowcolypse” — but this is what we did today so I’ll start with this.

My kids have enjoyed getting out to play in the snow these past few days, but boy is it a commitment, to [...]

Elsie and Delia’s First Day of Preschool!

Sisters on the First Day of Prechool

This week, Elsie and Delia started preschool! Tuesday was “slow start” day, so Lonnie and I stayed (and were therefore able to take pictures), despite the girls both saying they wanted us to “go away!”. They are still surprised they are actually getting to do this and keep saying “MY school?” (as opposed to Emma’s [...]

Twin Shenanigans #432

Two soaking wet fully clothed girls, plus a sopping wet Ernie

Reason #432 why you may want to rethink keeping a filled kiddie pool in the backyard and/or sending your twin preschoolers out to play while you “get a few things done on the computer” (haha).

Color Mixing Water Play

color mixing in muffin tins

Sometimes I need a quick activity for a kid and this one never fails me. This particular day Emma was having a rough time and needed to do something away from her sisters. I like doing this up on the counter so that whoever is working on it is up at my level and the [...]

Our Mud Pie Kitchen

Our Mudpie Kitchen

Since we snagged our awesome play structure from the neighbors two years ago, I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with the underside area, that has mostly been unused, overgrown with grass and weeds. Sand box? No, have one already, don’t want to attract cats. Playhouse? Maybe, but how to make it work [...]

Outdoor Driveway & Sidewalk Paint: Easy, Pretty, Fun!

Yellow Driveway Paint

A fabulous summer activity. Actually, we did it on an overcast and slightly chilly Seattle morning and had plenty of fun then as well! The recipe is terribly simple: 1 to 1 cornstarch to water (I actually made it a bit more watered down than that) plus as much food coloring as you desire. I [...]

Shootin’ Hoops

When we moved in to our current house three years ago (this month!), there was a full sized basketball hoop with pole lying in our driveway, decommissioned since the previous owners had moved more than a year before. With unpacking and twins being born the very next month, that hoop stayed there a looooong while [...]

Handmade Toys: Mini Sandbox

Delia playing in the sandbox

Back in December, Lonnie and I embarked on several handmade toy projects for the girls. One was a mini table-top sand box, similar to those I had seen in toys stores — I knew my girls had loved playing with the ones on display. Once I suggested the idea, Lonnie took on the project and started hand carving some tools — one teeny tiny wooden tool at a time. He ended up with 9 different tools (different shaped shovels, brooms, hoes, etc) and three hand-carved buckets. [...]
