Scenes from a birthday: Emma is 5!

5 years ago, my life changed forever.  Thank you, Emma, for all you are — you are amazing, smart, funny, and so full of life.  You are an amazing storyteller and creator.  You are incredibly patient (most of the time!) and loving to all of us.  You are a caretaker; sensitive to other people’s hurts, wanting to help, hug, make things better.  You challenge me daily to be a better person and a better mom.  I am so lucky to get to be your mama!

Emma’s birthday party was last Saturday — A small-ish one at home with friends from school.  The weather cooperated, and it was perfect!  Most of the fun was outside, though we did make sea and space mobiles, per her request.

Emma's party activity choice: sea and space mobiles!

The cake was an awesome banana-walnut cake (with ingredients Emma memorized & wrote down from a Dora episode), a great creamy chocolate frosting, Pocky raft, and handmade Hello Kitty topper thanks to Etsy!  Totally assembled last minute — as in, some of it, just a few minutes before coming to the table!

Opening presents from Grandma Cynthia -- Charlie and Lola dolls!

It was a loooong 4 days (it felt like to her, and therefore me!) until today, her real birthday.  Because she was so anxiously awaiting them, we opened presents early at 6am before Daddy left for work.  I’m not sure we’ll do this again because there was a little let-down once the presents were done but there was still a whole day ahead of us!

Emma had school, then we headed to a park of her choice for lunch.

After dinner (including mac & cheese and beets, per Emma’s request ), the girls sat on the porch to enjoy a birthday treat — lollipops.  That soon morphed into enjoying lollipops while swinging, of course.  Probably not the most recommended combo, but alas.  It was a nice mellow ending to the day!  Emma and I had a movie night to cap off the night, while the little sisters went to bed.
