Comments, Please?

Hey y’all. I’ve heard from various folks lately who have had problems commenting on my blog.  Not good, since I looooove comments!

If this has happened to you, could you please email me (listed in the "about" tab, above) with the details of exactly what happens (what error message you get, if any, etc) if you try?  The two things I am aware of currently is that sometimes I’ve found EVEN if I do the damn math problem right, it says I do not and makes me try again (I’m really not THAT bad at math).  But usually after the second time it works.  The other thing that seems to randomly happen is that a comment may be identified as spam and it won’t be posted.  In this case, I still get it and can manually approve it, so don’t fret.

But if something else is happening for you, please let me know!  I just want to work out the kinks if we can!  The spam comments are unbearable without some level of protection so I’m not going to eliminate it altogether, but maybe we can figure out something to help…

  • I just wanted to say that I like the math problem more than trying to decipher swished together letters, which is what I think happens with my own blog … I don’t remember having a problem commenting here, though Blogger is usually troublesome for me.

What you described has happened to me several times, though I just assumed I did the math problem wrong. I have a master’s in math, but I’m notorious for making arithmetic mistakes!
    Let’s see if I can get this one… 2 + 85…

  • As you know my comments were being marked as Spam for some reason. However I’ve also had troubles in the past with the math problem not accepting my answer. At first I thought I was just answering incorrectly but when the question is # + 0 I’m pretty sure I’m entering in the right answer! Rejecting my math answer happened probably 50% of the time. The spam thing is new to me.

in the previous post, I got the message “Comment authentication failed”

It always tells me I do the math problem wrong as well. Let’s see if I can get it this time!

  • It looks like the biggest problem is that it appears to think the math problem is wrong (giving you the authentication error message), even when it isn’t. But if you just retry or twice with another math problem, it does go through. I’ll try to research what we can do, in the meantime, persistence!
