Birds of a Feather

So much is happening around here, but alas, I am a slacker blogger.

Last week the kids and I went down to visit my parents, and lots of fun was had by all.  Here are a couple of funny baby faces from there (note all the teeth!).  Lots of pics in the April gallery from the week (and a couple videos to be posted here shortly).  Also new photos in the end of the March gallery too!

Both Elsie and Delia like to ham it up for the camera these days:

Delia

Elsie (taken just a few minutes after Delia’s — they both have that same goofy face smile when they want to be funny!).

When I first was looking at these photos, I totally got them mixed up for a bit.  I can always tell them apart when they are in front of me, but in photos, it can be really hard for me sometimes!

Its been pretty amazing to see the similarities with these two.  There is definitely a lot to be said for genetics!  In terms of baby book data (of which I have totally not filled out, whoops!), things like weights, food preferences, teething, physical development and milestones, they are always SO close, within days or at the most a week, most of the time.

They also have very similar temperaments, to the point that I have a hard time when people ask me about that kind of thing. They are both so unique and obviously have their own delightful personalities to us, but its hard for me to really put it into words.   On one hand, I am really hesitant to say things like "she is the needier one, she is the mellower one", or "she more outgoing, she is the shyer one", because I just hate stereotyping and labling, and feel like people who do not know them well will kind of glom onto those things in a way that is not useful.  Or even correct — they flip flop so much with all that stuff, it seems!  I guess part of the problem is that when describing one, its so easy to contrast her to her sister, instead of just focusing on her alone without the comparisons.  Which is what we really should do, of course.  I think in the next few days I will try to do a post on each girl and see if I can do that for y’all.

Here’s a funny thing I caught on camera this week, though.  I looked up from whatever I was doing and found Elsie sitting in her toy box (they are big rolling drawers that slide under our play table):

She is still just starting to cruise, and not fully crawling in the normal way yet (still a funny seal crawl, where she drags her belly on the floor) so I was surprised she managed this!  I made a bit of a fuss, getting the camera to take a pic, and Delia watched the whole scene delightedly from across the room:

I then took Elsie over for a diaper change.  Literally 2 minutes later, I turn around to see this:

Apparently Delia did not want to be outdone.  I fear this is just the beginning…..
