Its a girl! (we think)

So we had the second level 2 ultrasound yesterday, at about 19 weeks through the pregnancy. Definitely the most entertaining one, as it lasted a good 20-30 minutes or so. The ultrasound tech was really nice in describing all the things she was measuring and looking for, and it seemed like we got to see every angle and view imaginable.

The best was seeing fingers and toes, for some reason. One time the mouth was definitely attached to the thumb. Other times she was just batting her face like she knew it would fit in there somewhere (Lonnie thinks she needs to work a little on her gross motor skills development). She was moving around a lot, and while I do feel movement quite a bit throughout the day, I didn’t feel any of it then.

She actually was being a bit shy and we were worried we would not get to find out gender at all. Her legs were closed and in the way for most of it, so the tech had me lie on my side and she had to poke and prod a bit to get a view that worked. She said she could confirm girl with about 90-95% accuracy, which adds a slight element of surprise, still. Pretty good odds, however.

We weren’t really hoping for one or the other in any case, after this long we certainly don’t care if its a he or a she. But, I did want at least one girl, so now I don’t have to stress about that in the future, I guess!

So other than the gender, it was concluded that everything looks great and there are no markers that give them concern. Later, I had my regular appointment with the OB and asked if there would be any more ultrasounds. I was told no, though often something will come up in the later weeks so there is a chance for it then. My last ultrasound? For the next 20 weeks? I am, of course, very pleased to be on target and considered normal and low risk, but also a bit weirded out that I am not getting monitored with the high-tech enthusiasm that feels like the norm to an infertile like myself. I mean, I used to get ultrasounds every other day to watch EGGS! Now theres a BABY in there!!!!

In other news, Christmas is coming, we leave in 3 days for DC, and I am totally not ready. Gotta shop, wrap and deliver presents, visit friends, take the car into the shop (don’t ask me why now, as we are flying, not driving to the East Coast) and come up with some kind of wicking drip irrigation system to water the Christmas tree. Will keep you updated on the progress.

  • Oh yay! So glad everything looks healthy and normal inside. And congrats on no penis. Just try to tell everyone that NOT EVERYTHING has to be pink, or your child won’t get any other color in her wardrobe!!! Have a good Christmas, Mommy.
